WHITE MEMORIES

Synopsis: A play about memory and the absence of it, forgetfulness and dementia. This play aims to examine the value of memories: on the one hand, the perspective of those on stage who experience the anguish of a ‘blank’, that is, the fear of being unable to memorise a script. On the other, the reality of memory loss in old age. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia, a neurodegenerative condition that affects memory, thought and language. Through the testimonies of actresses who use memory as a tool, personal experiences of forgetfulness are shared, inviting a profound reflection on ‘diseases of forgetfulness’ and their impact not only on those who live with them, but also on those who remain closely connected to them as carers. What remains when faculties, functions and identity are lost?
