“GIANTS OF THE JURASSIC: THE DINOSAURS OF POMBAL”

Around 150 million years ago, the area we now know as Pombal was inhabited by dinosaurs. The remains preserved in the rocks allow us to uncover this distant past and learn about the animals and environments that have shaped the natural history of the municipality. The exhibition ‘Giants of the Jurassic: The Dinosaurs of Pombal’ invites visitors on a journey through the archaeological sites of Andrés, Junqueira, Monte Agudo and Mouriscas, showcasing the palaeontological finds and the work involved in discovery, excavation and research that enables us to interpret this heritage. Fossils, reconstructions and audiovisual content bring visitors closer to a vanished world, with a particular highlight being the life-size replica of an Allosaurus fragilis. The result of a collaboration between Pombal Town Council, researchers and scientific institutions, the exhibition also highlights the contribution of local communities to the identification and preservation of these artefacts. An opportunity to discover Pombal through another dimension of its heritage and to understand how each discovery adds a new chapter to the history of life on Earth.
